In Second Gear. May 15, 2007. #1. I have recently bought a 1996 Discovery 300TDi with EDC. It used to have an automatic transmission but was recently converted into manual transmission. Several points I have observed is that there is no accelerator cable. The accelerator pedal feels very light and is only connected to the potentiometer.
It depends on the make year your 300tdi is. The early ones have a dedicated plug to the right of the accelerator pedal, under the A post lower trim, where the ECM ecu is located. The later ones have an OBD connector under the lower left corner of the glove compartment, accessed without removing any trim. Moderators.

If your wanting more MPG there is always the relatively easy 200/300tdi swap. The motor going in isn't the hard part, its finding one in the states that ins't over priced or dealing with shipping it across the pond. They return great economy as long as you don't want neck snapping power.
Try not to worry about it for a couple of weeks. It will take you at least this long to get used to the different noises a diesel makes in comparison to a smooth petrol engine. Even modern diesels clatter compared to petrol engines, especially when cold and under load. The 300Tdi is not known for it's quietness.
