I've researched online and read about two potential causes: 1) Low/old transmission fluid, even though BMW says the ATF is "lifetime". Others have said this may cause shifting issues and recommend changing every 50,000 miles. I read that Valvoline Maxlife ATF is an excellent choice for the Z4 and plan to attempt that change this week.
Automatic Transmission Problem. So I bought a 2008 3.0si Coupe 2 days ago with 91k miles. First 2 days were great, wasn’t having any issues besides a windshield washer pump which I replaced. Today, when I was driving for about 30 minutes, accelerating fairly hard, it started having problems when downshifting to accelerate.
Misfire on acceleration and poor performance once warmed up seem the most common complaint. LPFP (low pressure fuel pump) The E89 uses a 'primer pump' inside the tank to send fuel up to the HPFP. You can often hear it start when you turn on the ignition. Again, seems like noise issues are the most prevalent complaints.
2004 BMW z4 89K miles 2.5 auto I have changed the valve cover gasket and the oil filter basket gasket. The top of the engine is clean now. I still have an oil leak. It is dripping off the little V shaped shield under the engine compartment. It is not a gusher just a enough to stain the garage floor. It drips whether the engine is hot or cold.
Z4 - 2003 - Intermittent wipers are, ah, intermittent. So, I *thought* I noticed this last week, then this weekend the wipers worked just fine, rain sensing and all. Today, en route to work, all was fine. On the way home, we started off fine, but after a quick stop (car was turned off for about 20 minutes), they would not work again.
The most common signs of bad mass air flow sensor (MAF) in BMW Z4 are loss of power or slow acceleration, engine hesitation or jerking during acceleration, erratic idling, misfires, poor exhaust emission values and sometimes black smoke comes out of the tailpipe. The mass air flow sensor is part of the engine’s intake system and is located
The six-speed transmission can feel somewhat notchy when compared to the five-speed, but otherwise problems should be few and far between. Ditto the auto and SMG set-up. A clogged crankcase breather will increase the six-cylinder engine’s thirst for oil. It’s relatively straightforward to replace. BMW Z4 2003-2008 E85 / E86.
This particular top problem only affects E85 chassis vehicles - the "hard top Z4" is the E89 and is a completely different vehicle. Quick Navigation 2002 - 2008 Z4 (E85, E86) Go Top Site Areas
1) Rare cases the rack was damaged (very rare) 2) Pre 2006 cars suffered with sticky steering (BMW revised the grease and worm gear clearance) Mines late 2007. 3) Ball joints, Couplings, EPS issues. So like with all things you start with the cheaper options first I ended up fitting new wishbones, lollypops already powerflexed.
It looked good, went hard and had the sort of road presence BMW owners expect of their brand. Where the Z3's lines were soft, its proportions plump, the Z4 had sharp lines that carved out a distinctive shape, and its proportions were tight. If the Z3 seemed tired from the get-go, the Z4 appeared poised to pounce.
Wipers not working. Hi guys. Today my wipers started randomly stopping and then wouldn't move again until I switched the car off and then back on again, then they worked fine for a while. When I got home, even when restarting the car they would not move at all. Got home, and found the guide to cleaning the motor and have done that.
